Protecting your privacy at Snug
We take privacy and data security very seriously. This summary explains how we manage your information and the steps you can take to control your data.
How we collect your personal information
- Direct Entry: We collect information you enter directly into Snug or when you authorize the retrieval of third-party information, such as rental reference, identity, income or background check verification.
- Social Sign-on: If you register via Facebook, we utilize only basic login info (name, email, mobile). We do not collect social account data such as friends lists or birthdays.
- System Generation: We use cookies for authentication and to optimize your experience. We may also record user sessions for a short period to improve usability and customer service.
- Minimalism: We aim to collect only what is required to complete the actions you request.
What we do with your information
- Rental Applications: Application forms provide clear explanations of how your data is used, such as sending reference requests to property managers.
- Snug Profile: is your snug.com account.
- Renter Profile: You choose what to share for rental, financial, and marketplace services.
- Tenancy Checks: With your digital signature on the Personal Information Collection and Disclosure Authority, the property manager may facilitate checks against listed tenancy databases.
Who we share your information with
- Property Managers: Only verified property managers receive your application details after you have provided explicit consent.
- Private References: Rental references are private. Only the tenant can see the record or request and choose to share it with authorized Snug members/property managers.
- No Data Sales: Renter data is never sold or passed to third parties without your explicit consent.
- Integrations: Upon your request for account deletion, we can send a convenience request to integration partners to delete your data held by them.
Protecting your information
- Best-in-Class Security: We use password protection, firewalls, SSL encryption, and mobile verification.
- AWS Infrastructure: Database backups are managed by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and systematically deleted.
- Data Lifecycle: Sensitive ID documents are automatically deleted at 60 days, unless you consent for extended retention to 6 months, and inactive accounts are removed after 3 years.
- Regular Audits: Our security protocols and management procedures are regularly reviewed for continued effectiveness.
Your privacy rights
- Access & Correction: you may request a copy of your information, and to have it corrected or deleted, simply email help@snug.com and we will advise you on the process we take to understand your request, verify you, provide information (please note that personal information access requests will not include any information that may unreasonably interfere with the privacy or information of other persons, including employment or rental references).
- Self-Service Deletion: You can delete individual Snug Profile elements yourself at any time by logging in and clicking "remove".
- Account Deletion: For irreversible account deletion, contact help@snug.com. We endeavour to process written instructions within 2 business days.
- Discrimination Support: We maintain high community standards and provide resources to ensure a fair rental community for everyone.
