This article explains why and how to perform a “hard refresh” (clearing cache and reloading) in various web browsers on different operating systems.

Why Hard Refresh?

Web browsers store local copies (cache) of website assets, like images and files, to speed up loading times. However, this cached data can sometimes prevent you from seeing the latest version of a webpage or cause the page to freeze or behave unexpectedly.

A hard refresh forces the browser to bypass the cache and download the most recent assets directly from the server. This is especially useful when a page isn't loading correctly or becomes unresponsive. Performing a hard refresh can often resolve the issue instantly.

Note: Ensure you only have one tab of the site open when performing a hard refresh to effectively clear the cache for that site.

How to Hard Refresh by Browser and OS

Chrome

Windows:
- Hold Ctrl + click the Reload/Refresh button.
- OR: Hold Ctrl + press F5.
Mac:
- Hold Command + Shift + press R.
- OR: Hold Shift + click the Reload/Refresh button.

Firefox

Windows:
- Hold Ctrl + Shift + press R.
- OR: Hold Ctrl + press F5.
Mac:
- Hold Command + Shift + press R.
- OR: Hold Shift + click the Reload/Refresh button.

Safari

Mac:
- Hold Option + Command + press E. (This clears the cache; you may need to reload the page normally afterwards).
iOS (iPhone/iPad):
1. Go to Settings -> Safari.
2. Scroll down and tap Advanced.
3. Tap Website Data.
4. Find snug.com in the list, swipe left on it, and tap Delete.

Internet Explorer

Hold Ctrl + press F5.
OR: Hold Ctrl + click the Reload/Refresh button.
